In order to encourage the environmental education (abbreviated as EE) experiences exchange between cities and counties countrywide, Ministry of Education (MOE) and Hualien County Government has hosted to hold ” 2019 National Environmental Education Conference on Annual Major Outcomes” during 4th July to 5th. The EE Counseling Groups from twenty-two cities/counties all gathered together to share their EE experiences and outcomes. Moreover, local government has called for many EE related government authorities and NGOs to support this conference.
In the ceremony, government officials raised the map of five continents in the world to demonstrate 17 goals for sustainable development (SDGs), with pledge to protect the earth with no racial boundaries, to launch global vision, to sustain the environment and to fulfill intergeneration justice. Those government officials included Department of Information and Technology Education, MOE (Deputy Director-general , Liu, Wen-Huei), Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs (Section Director, Chuang, Ming-Chih ), Central Weather Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (Deputy Director, Shen, Li-Yin), County Mayor of Hualien Government and other authority representatives.
MOE stated, “This conference is annual EE event which creates chances for cities/counties to share their outstanding outcomes from last year and to demonstrate their creativities. It is hoped to inspire each other with new EE ideas.” The topic of this conference is “Interdisciplinary EE connecting to the world” which especially responds to SDGs of the United Nations. SDGs statement pointed out worldwide issues with consideration of social justice and equality and provided 17 global goals and 169 targets for all countries to reach before year 2030.
Mayor of Hualien County Government stated at the opening ceremony, “The main scheme of administration is “Happy Hualien, Garden City”. We put our efforts to conserve quality of the environment and the society towards beautiful mountains, clean waters and warm people. We save energy through green building guidance, outdoor learning, traditional ecological knowledge, and daily practices. Meanwhile, our government promotes food education through local community, industry and related authorities, also links to agriculture policy. We promote marine education with core values as guiding students to feel the ocean, to learn about the ocean, to love ocean and to save ocean. During the past 9 years, we have planted 3 million trees in order to save more green for the next generation.
